Trimester End/Wounded Shoulders

This week is the end of the trimester at school, which means the year is two-thirds over. This year has gone by quickly. I had two concurrent English 101 classes, AP English Literature and an English 102 class at University Place fall semester/first trimester. This trimester I had two English 110 classes (freshmen lit) and Senior A and B.

Neil and I both have "wounded shoulders" --we made a resolution to get fit for the New Year--our diets have been going well, but I guess our shoulders did not get the memo.

I've had an interesting "medical" February. The first week of this month, I started having pain in my left shoulder--then could not lift or move my left arm without major pain. According to my MRI I have a torn shoulder tendon. The first ER doctor gave me steroids, pain pills, and a guess that something was wrong with my neck with the cervical fusion I had five years ago. He passed me on to my old pal Dr. Cach ( a great neurosurgeon if you're looking for one) who thought the neck was fine (ordered an MRI to make sure), but believed the shoulder was hurt and recommended Dr. Huntsman, shoulder specialist extraordinaire, who gave me a cortisone shot and recommended physical therapy. I seem to be healing--yeah!

Neil has been seeing the same surgeon since the end of December because he can't do anything with right arm or shoulder; his MRI indicated that he has a rotator cuff that is 90% unattached--not a good thing. He has surgery scheduled for March 6th. Dr. H says he will finish un-atttaching and then re-attach--sounds rather painful.

We decided wounded or not we were heading this week for the warmth of our condo in L.V. for five days--after all between the two of us we have two good shoulders--my right, Neil's left!! We'll be having fun at the Nascar races and shopping and plan to meet up with Wayne and Marcia, and Duane, our good friend and Island Park cabin buddy. It will be nice to leave Idaho snow behind.
